(The Prequel of Detective Lagarde Series)
About:
Amidst the glitz and glamor of Los Angeles hides a dark secret.
A man accused of murdering his wife goes free. Angelina Lagarde, a young detective fresh out of the academy, is put on his protection squad. But something isn’t adding up, and when he gets off scot-free, her instincts flare.
Unfortunately, Angelina’s senior-level partner, Detective Lance Slate, likes to play things safe for an unknown reason. She can see that he’s a good detective, and even though he doesn’t trust the acquitted man either, he tells Angelina over and over to let it slide.
Angelina’s positive outlook combined with a stubborn determination ends with her re-investigating a case that had just been closed. With many obstacles before her in the form of nasty superiors, a fearful partner and her own inexperience, Angelina pushes through to find the truth, even if it is at the cost of her newly appointed badge – and even her life.
Review:
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read and review one of her books.
Having never read any of Clare’s books before I had no preconceived ideas about Angelina. I rarely read books that are a series with a common theme such as the detective. I prefer not I to be pigeon-holed into the order I should read an novel, but Clara proved that you can read her Detective Lagarde series out of sequence as each story reaches a conclusion.
Serial murderer Frank was always going to lose out when the young detective Angelina Lagarde got her teeth into his case.
Angelina’s sidekick Lance is dragged along begrudgingly when Angelina won’t let a case go, wary of losing his job but with a need to keep an eye on Angelina whilst she dregs up fresh evidence he gets pulled along in the slipstream of her enthusiasm. The character Lewis seemed a little like a bolt on or after thought, brought in to make the story move along and help tidy up the chipped corners.
This book was short, fast moving and wrapped up the story neatly.
