About
How far would you go to protect your children?
For parents living in the beautiful coastal town of Pacific Pines, all their hopes and dreams are pinned on the outcome of the annual Gala Day hosted by St Ignatius Boys’ School. To be accepted into the prestigious institution, their sons must battle it out, facing rigorous rounds of physical and mental tests. Their parents will stop at nothing to ensure their sons succeed.
But after one boy is struck down in a hit and run, the scandals, secrets and lies that entangle three mothers threaten to unravel their seemingly perfect lives . . .
How far will the women go to protect their reputations – and their families?
My review
As a mother I would do anything to protect my children but there has to be limits surely.
There is a film called the Camomile Lawn and on the clifftops of Cornwall the children do a run called the Terror Run, this book reminded me of that run.
Kaya, a character that was difficult to warm too, but what a surprise she has in the closing chapters. What terrible lies we weave. Will there be a follow up to find out more about this unlikeable character?
Not as gripping as I expected, slow in places, sometimes too much detail, did we really need to know it was right of the kitchenaid, when we had no idea where the kitchenaid was in the first place.
All the characters where difficult to like in various ways, Estella the name alone conjures up a snob, is nauseating and cold.
Bec the do gooder and mother who seems perfect. But we all know perfect doesn’t exist.
Felix. Do we want to know, being left on a cliffhanger? Not sure I want to read his story but it certainly could make for a gripping tale.
I had an issue with Kaya suddenly knowing about Sam, no build up, no questions, Estelle as only just found out about Sam yet Kaya is talking to her and Bec as if she discussed it with them before and knows everything. I could find no mention of Kaya having discussed Sam with Estelle before, maybe it was when they met under the tree and the reader was left to assume that it was discussed, unfortunately I didn’t pick up on that.
