My Review:
I listened to this on Audible, and at first, I struggled with the American accent.
It started quite slowly but picked up momentum and gripped me, despite the accent.
The story centres around Lacey, her silence is the result of a horrific attack that left her in shock and unable to speak. Her mum does everything in her power to support her daughter while taking care of Lacey’s three children. Lacey’s husband doesn’t feature much; I was a little confused as to whether they were actually still together.
Lacey’s son, Dylan, is a kind and compassionate lad who is a great help to his gran and his siblings. The burden he takes on supporting his family whilst only a teen himself plays out throughout this book. I enjoyed the last few chapters, discovering where Dylan takes his life and how he cares so gently for his gran.
The ending was sort of a surprise. It was so well written that it definitely had me doubting who committed the murder.
The strength of Lacey’s mother’s love is powerful but it is her son Dylan who proves he is stronger and has his families back.
