Catherine and Simon and their three children live a happy and hard earned life in the cottage they bought and renovated before they got married.

Simon with his business partner has built a successful business.
Simon came from a broken background and his trust of women was wavering because of his mother’s actions towards men. His parents felt him too young to settle down.
Catherine grew up idolising her mother, a seamstress who dismissed her daughter and had no time for children, Catherine watched her mother make clothes , even though she’d asked to be taught, she realised that wasn’t ever going to be an option, so in the end taught herself how to create beautiful clothes.

But when Simon hears his friend Dougie with his wife his life implodes and his resentment and anger take over.

And Catherine is left to pick up the pieces.

Spreading across 25yrs this book moves back and forth whilst you follow how both lives separate and come back together to meet at a crossroads. A crossroads that is stormy, heartbreaking and fraught.

Not everything we hear or see is the truth, and only truth will set us free.

John Marrs has written a gripping and fast paced suspense story, with characters that you can’t work out whether to like or not. Simon self satisfied man who believes he is always right, his attitude left me confused with a bad taste, was he really that delusional or was he right, and his wife Catherine who is fragile and broken but ultimately has to develop into something much stronger. Her strength is admirable and ultimately her power.
