About:
But three years ago, her husband left, taking their child with him.
Now, her daughter has come to stay, and Naomi knows it’s her one chance to re-build her family. But the night ends in a terrible accident. And Naomi tells a lie she can never take back:
NAOMI REPORTS HER DAUGHTER MISSING.
Within hours, her home is invaded. Journalists crowd the driveway. Police search the woods at the foot of the garden. Her ex-husband paces the hall.
And Naomi can’t look away. Because the only thing worse than the lie she’s told is the truth:
NAOMI HAS NO MEMORY OF WHAT REALLY HAPPENED THAT NIGHT . . .
My Review:
Weaving throughout little more than a week this web of lies doesn’t truly get going until they find Freya. The story drags out from the moment she is missing, laboriously mapping out Naomi’s thoughts and fears whilst police search for her daughter.
I found this hard to read, I was skimming paragraphs that repeated themselves over and over, covering old ground in a different way. The fact that there are pages and pages dedicated to the search felt like overkill.
However the story line as a standalone is brilliant and the tangled web of the characters is well written.
The conclusion wasn’t quite what I expected but it also wasn’t a surprise, the story continues through the trial in detail which I found quite tiresome.
